It has become a thriving and beautiful neighborhood today and continues to be identified by its lakefront location. The neighborhood is well connected to the rest of the Greater Toronto Area thanks to several arterial routes as well as public transportation and is also a favorite shopping destination with many dining options. This community was originally founded as a small fishing village and was named after a legendary British Naval hero called Horatio Nelson, who was appointed as the Duke of Bronte by King Ferdinand III of Sicily. One of the main industries of the area was stone-hooking, which was a price of pulling stones out of the shores of Lake Ontario to be used as construction materials. Many such examples of this can still be seen in the neighborhood in several buildings till date. Although the practice of pulling stones from Lake Ontario may not be in practice anymore, the shores of Lake Ontario still continues to be a symbol for the community. Bronte Harbour is an important landmark in the area that sits just north of Bronte Creek’s estuary that unloads into Lake Ontario. Residents and visitors come here to survey the rows of boats that line the shore. The Harbour Banquet and Conference Centre is also located here which is one of the premier venues in the entire Greater Toronto Area. This place offers unobstructed beautiful views of the Lake along with amazing menus with the potential to impress even the poshest visitor. This venue also serves as one of the most popular wedding destinations in the Greater Toronto Area. If you want to try out the cuisine without attending any wedding, you can visit the Compass Restaurant which operates throughout the warmer months. There are other restaurants in the community too such as the Plank Chef Inspired Resto Bar which features delicious food along with a cool vibe owing to its series of aged wooden planks that adorn the interior. The Firehall and Nearby Coach & Four are also some of the other restaurants in the neighborhood with mouth-watering dishes. Detached houses are the most common type in here and account for 65 percent of the total home sales in the area over the past year. This is followed by Condos which are slowly starting to get more attention and account for 22 percent of the total home sales in the area. The average price of a home in this neighborhood was $1,082,259 which was an increase of 22 percent over the last year. This leaves us with an average freehold price of $1,174,754 along with an average condo price of $803,206. The area is equipped with everything you need within walking distance. The Joseph Brant Hospital is the closest in the neighborhood and has gone through a major redevelopment and expansion recently. The upgrades done had included cancer clinic, 9 new operating rooms and an expanded ICO. The Sheridan College is also in close proximity to the neighborhood and is known as one of the best colleges in Canada for artistic learning facilities. When it comes to shopping, the Bronte Road and Lakeshore Road West intersection is considered as the primary commercial district for the neighborhood. Besides this, the neighborhood also has easy access to the South Oakville Centre which features several stores and services.
